Springlake is incredibly excited to be the first physical store for Pecks Road Cheat Meals, an artisan doughnut café designed to suit a healthy lifestyle. As well as their delicious fresh donuts, they offer barista-made coffee, boba tea, protein shakes, and fresh press juices. Pecks Road Café is now open for takeaway, so we’re catching up with the three brothers who make this unexpected combination of a healthy lifestyle and amazing doughnuts work so well.

Tell us a little about yourselves and the business at Springlake. Why do you love what you do?

Pecks Road Cheat Meals is a business owned by three brothers, Albin, AJ, and Arbi Lawang, that all share a passion for food, fitness, and family. We specialise in artisan doughnuts and specialty coffee by Locale Espresso, protein shakes, delicious boba, and cold-pressed juices! Pecks Road began as a vision by Albin, the youngest of the three, who wanted to break down the stereotype of a bland ‘healthy diet lifestyle’. As a personal trainer-turned-qualified chef, Albin realised that being healthy goes beyond physical fitness goals and that food can be more than just fuel. Food is an art form that enriches the lives of anyone willing to treat themselves! Pecks Road is where fitness and indulgence can come together.

When customers come to your business, what can they expect?

Patrons will be welcome to come in and select from our awesome range of doughnuts and coffee. We offer the perfect snack to grab on your way to work, on your way home, or to accompany a nice walk around the lake. We also have our own delicious cold-pressed juice range with five unique blends fo’ that cleanse as well as boba and protein shakes. When we eventually introduce an expanded brunch menu, we will also offer a sit-down experience somewhere between fine dining and breakfast.

What are some of your favourite items on the menu that customers should try?

The definite go-to for most new customers is our 6 PACK FOR YOUR 6 PACK, a taste-tester that showcases six of our featured artisan doughnuts for the month. Some particularly popular flavours we’ve had in the past include Strawberry Cheesecake, Ube, Pistachio & Rhubarb, PB&J, and Caramilk Cruller.

We’ve also been working on recipes for vegan and low-calorie doughnuts, as well as a full brunch menu to be introduced later down the track. The menu will take a more nourishing approach while still exploring ways to indulge in true ‘Cheat Meal’ fashion

Why are you excited to open in Caroline Springs?

We are super excited to offer the people of Caroline Springs some unique flavours not yet seen anywhere in Melbourne, let alone the western suburbs! Growing up in the west ourselves, we always dreamed of bringing the quality artisan cuisines and specialty coffee that normally requires a drive into the city over to this side of town. Working as a qualified chef in the kitchens of Kettle Black, Higher Ground, and Howler, Albin hopes to bring a similar culinary experience to the west, using the skills he’s learnt at those inspiring establishments. You can also expect to see us continue to incorporate our Filipino heritage into some of our doughnut flavours as well!

Are you ready for your treat day? Pecks Road Café is now open daily from 8am-3pm for takeaway at Springlake. To find them, just head inside the main entrance near Dan Murphy’s and the store will be on your left. You can also follow Pecks Road on Instagram @pecksroad to keep up to date with their latest creations.
